Bewdley Bike Jam

Stourport Sports Club, Kingsway, DY13 8BQ

The ever popular Bewdley Bike Jam is full of family cycling activities at Stourport Cycle Track (previously held at Jubilee Gardens and The Frank Chapman Centre).
All details are to be confirmed but we are planning on:


  • Open access to the bike track: bring your own bike, and try our demos on the fantastic off road purpose built cycle track in Stourport. Suitable for all ages.
  • Coaching sessions: GB Cycling Team racer and Head honcho at www.opentrail.co.uk Hannah Escott will be there to provide coaching tips in 45 minute sessions throughout the day. Sign up in advance to secure your spot.
  • Demo bikes: try out a different bike for free!

                           Bikes available:

                                                    Adult mountain bikes from Marin, Mondraker and Canfield (from Overspoke Bikes)

                                                    Ebikes and Merida (from Bewdley Outdoors)
                                                    Kids specific lightweight Frog bikes (from Overspoke Bikes)


  • BBQ- The track team will be lighting up their BBQ just for us, bring your own meat.


  • Disability bikes- what’s it like to ride a bike specially designed for disabled people? Come and find out!


  • Unrideable bikes- Come try our challenging bikes!! The unrideable bikes, unicycles, tiny bikes, we have them all- can you handle them?


  • Security marking- unfortunately bike theft is an increasing problem, come and get your bike security marked and find out more on how to keep your bike safe.


  • Overspoke Bikes- see what your local bike shop have to offer you from wheel building and services to a wide variety of unique new bicycles- check out Fat Bikes and the huge 36" wheeler!


  • Bewdley Outdoors- see the new venture of the towns old favourite- find out more about bike hire and adventures you can have locally.


  • Cycle smoothie- can you pedal your way to make a delicious fruit smoothie.


  • Dr Bike- our friends at Open Trail will be providing a mechanic to safety check and tune your bikes for free!

Monday 28th May (Bank Holiday) 
Monday Milers Epic Social (20 or 60 mile road rides)

10:00-16:00 at Overspoke Bikes, Lax Lane, Bewdley

The perfect social for your Bank Holiday Monday ride. Join Rich and Macolm as they lead you through some of the most beautiful views in our area, on either a 20 or 60 mile ride.


The 20 mile route features quiet roads, canal paths and National Cycle Network including a midway stop at Hartlebury Castle's new cafe!


The 60 mile route will have a mixture of quiet back roads, stunning views, long descents and tough climbs. There will be a midway stop at the King's Arms pub in Cleobury for the pub's famous food and drink.Secure bike storage will also be provided. GPS coordinates will be available if you choose to complete the ride at a faster pace.


Both rides will finish for a drink at Bewdley Brewery. 


Prices:

20 miler is FREE (refreshments at Hartlebury Cafe and Bewdley Brewery are not included)

60 miler the ticket price of £4 which includes the ride and food at the Kings' Arms (refreshments at Bewdley Brewery are not included)

Tuesday 29th May 
Learn to Ride

9:30-14:00 at Bewdley Leisure Centre

Never learnt how to ride a bike before? We are offering EVERYONE the chance to learn how to ride. Our fully trained instructors will give you the confidence to find your balance, and over a 2 hour session give the basics in how to ride. Many people manage to go from being very nervous of the bike to pedalling comfortably without stabilisers!

Sessions available are:
9:30-11:30
12:00-14:00

Tuesday 29th May 
Bikeability Level 1 (may progress to level 2 in the afternoon)

9:30-12:30at  Bewdley Leisure Centre
We are making Bikeability (cycling proficiency) available to everyone! No matter what your age we think everyone should be able to learn National Standards Cycling to help you become safer and more confident on the road. 
Level 1 is for those that have their balance (without stabilisers), are confident pedlars but aren't quite ready to use the roads. In level 1 you will learn to control your bike in a closed environment (a school playground), get on and off the bike, use your gears, steer the bike accurately, control the bike with one hand, stop quickly if they need to, look around without wobbling.

More information is available at: https://bikeability.org.uk/. The course will involve lessons on local streets to cover: correct positioning, signalling, dealing with the unexpected, roundabouts, junctions on major and minor roads, U turns, passing traffic, and hazards.

Overspoke Bikes evening mountain bike ride- Wyre Forest

19:00-21:30at Overspoke Bikes, Units 3-4 The Craft Centre, Lax Lane, DY12 2DZ

A mountain bike ride at the Wyre Forest. The pace is set by the slowest rider, we very much encourage new people to join in and for everyone to improve their skills, however a basic level of mountain biking skill and fitness is required for this ride. You will also need a suitable mountain bike which works well. The ride will finish with a drink at Bewdley Brewery!

Wednesday 30th May
Ticket to Ride-  family ride on Severn Valley Railway

The outward journey will be either by the 1015 or 1100 departures from Bewdley (8 bikes per train)  to Hampton Loade Station, to ride the National Cycle Route 45 to Arley Station (about 7 miles). It is an easy route and passes the Country Park Visitor Centre and also cafes by the river in Arley.

From Arley Station riders and bikes will be transported back to Bewdley by train at no extra cost on either the 1.50 / 3.18 / 4.48 or 5.33 departures.

Pre-booking is essential so you can be allocated a date and train time for the outward journey.  No tickets will be available on the day.

To book places please contact Malcolm Garner on malcolmgarner@yahoo.co.uk. All children must be accompanied by an adult and you will need to say which date and which train you would prefer. It will be first come first served so don’t delay, there are only 16 places in total

SPECIAL OFFER- £5 
Take your bike on the steam train! Travel from Bewdley to Hampton Loade then ride back to Arley Station on route 45 then free return on the train for you and your bikes back to Bewdley!

Overspoke Bikes Evening Road Ride

19:00-21:30 at Overspoke Bikes, Units 3-4 The Craft Centre, Lax Lane, DY12 2DZ
A led road ride will leave Overspoke Bikes, Lax Lane at 7pm around the Worcestershire countryside. The pace is set by the slowest rider, we very much encourage new people to join in. However a basic level of skill and fitness is required for this ride. You will also need a suitable bike which works well e.g. road or hybrid.

Friday 1st June
Family ride with Severn Valley Velo

Stourport Sports Club at 09.30 or Dry Mill Lane Car Park at 10.15
A fantastic local family ride, provided by our friendly cycling club Severn Valley Velo (http://severnvalleyvelo.co.uk/ )
The ride leaves from Stourport and Bewdley:


Stourport Sports Club at 09.30 and leading on to Dry Mill Lane Car Park for about 10.15, to head to Wyre Forest Visitor Centre, Callow Hill for refreshments before returning by the same/similar route.  The second pick up point avoids all roads for less confident riders.


The route is suitable for mountain bikes and hybrids, every rider must wear a helmet. There is no cost for the ride but participants are advised to bring money for refreshments at the café and also to carry a drink for during the ride.
